Ingredients

1 large baguette or Italian bread

1 lb thinly sliced beef (ribeye or sirloin works best)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 large onion, sliced

1 large green bell pepper, sliced

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup provolone cheese, shredded

1/2 cup cream cheese, softened

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers, sautéing for about 5-7 minutes until softened and beginning to caramelize.

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant, stirring occasionally.

Push the vegetables to the side of the skillet and add the thinly sliced beef to the skillet. Season with salt, pepper, and oregano. Cook the beef for about 3-4 minutes until it’s browned and cooked through, mixing it with the vegetables as it cooks.

Meanwhile, slice the baguette in half lengthwise and scoop out some of the soft interior to create a hollow for the filling.

In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with a pinch of salt and a tablespoon of the sautéed mixture. Spread this mixture evenly on both sides of the baguette.

Once the beef and vegetables are fully cooked, pile them into the hollow of the baguette. Top generously with shredded provolone cheese.

Wrap the filled baguette in aluminum foil and place it on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy.

After baking, unwrap the foil and let it cool for a minute. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Slice into portions and serve warm.

                      Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 30 minutes | Servings: 4-6
