Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cocoa powder

1/2 cup buttermilk, room temperature

1 large egg, room temperature

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon red food coloring

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup cream cheese, softened (for frosting)

1 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)

1 tablespoon milk (for frosting)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a non-stick donut pan with cooking spray.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder until well combined.

In another bowl, mix buttermilk, egg, melted butter, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined; be careful not to overmix.

Transfer the batter into a piping bag (or a resealable plastic bag with a corner snipped off) and pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the donuts spring back when lightly touched. Remove from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

While the donuts cool, prepare the cream cheese frosting. In a bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth, then add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix well until creamy and free of lumps.

Once the donuts are cool, dip the tops in the cream cheese frosting and let the excess drip off. If desired, you can sprinkle with additional cocoa powder or red sprinkles for a festive touch.

Allow the frosting to set for a few minutes before serving.

Prep Time: 15 mins | Total Time: 45 mins | Servings: 12 Donuts

                      - Presentation Tips: Arrange the donuts on a decorative plate or tiered stand, and drizzle some extra frosting on top or around the plate for visual appeal.
