Ingredients

1 pound sausage (Italian or breakfast sausage), crumbled

6 large eggs

2 cups milk

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

8 slices of white bread, cubed

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 cup green bell pepper, diced

1/2 cup onion, diced

Fresh chives, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with non-stick spray or butter.

Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the crumbled sausage until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease and set aside.

Whisk the Eggs: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.

Combine Ingredients: In the greased baking dish, layer the cubed bread evenly. Add the cooked sausage, diced green bell pepper, and diced onion over the bread. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the top, ensuring all ingredients are soaked.

Add Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the entire casserole.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the cheese is bubbling.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh chopped chives before serving.

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 8-10 servings
