Ingredients

6 large croissants, torn into pieces

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Gruyère)

1 cup cooked and crumbled sausage or diced ham (optional)

1/4 cup chopped chives

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

Prepare Croissants: In a large mixing bowl, take the torn croissant pieces and spread them evenly in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. If using sausage or ham, sprinkle that over the croissants.

Whisk Eggs: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, garlic powder, onion powder, nutmeg, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Combine Ingredients: Pour the egg and milk mixture evenly over the croissant pieces, ensuring they are all soaked. Gently press down on the croissants with a spatula to help them absorb the liquid.

Add Cheese and Chives: Sprinkle the shredded cheese and chopped chives evenly across the top of the casserole. Drizzle the maple syrup if using for a hint of sweetness.

Chill Overnight: Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the croissants to soak up the liquid.

Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the cover from the casserole and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the casserole is puffed and golden on top. A knife inserted should come out clean.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm, garnished with extra chives if desired.

                Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 8 hours 40 minutes | Servings: 8
