Ingredients

12 ounces mozzarella cheese (string cheese or block cut into sticks)

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 tablespoon milk

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 teaspoon dried oregano

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

Vegetable oil for frying

Marinara sauce for serving

Instructions

Begin by preparing your cheese sticks. If using a block of mozzarella, cut it into sticks about 3 inches long and 1 inch thick.

Set up a breading station: in one shallow bowl, place the flour. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. In a third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, dried basil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

Dredge each mozzarella stick in the flour, ensuring it’s thoroughly coated. Shake off any excess flour.

Dip the floured stick into the egg mixture, allowing the excess to drip off.

Finally, roll the stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the breadcrumbs. Repeat with all mozzarella sticks.

Once coated, freeze the breaded mozzarella sticks for at least 30 minutes. This step helps keep the cheese intact during frying.

In a deep pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat (about 350°F or 175°C). You’ll need enough oil to submerge the sticks, about 2 inches deep.

Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks in batches, taking care not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Using a slotted spoon, remove the mozzarella sticks from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serve hot with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
