Ingredients

1 pound flank steak or skirt steak

2 tablespoons olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

8 tostada shells

1 cup refried beans (canned or homemade)

1 cup shredded lettuce

1 cup diced tomatoes

1 avocado, sliced

1/2 cup crumbled queso fresco

Fresh cilantro for garnish

Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

Marinade the Steak: In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, minced garlic, ground cumin, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Rub this mixture all over the flank or skirt steak, ensuring it's well-coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes (up to 2 hours in the fridge for more flavor).

Cook the Steak: Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, cook the steak for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, depending on thickness. Adjust time to your preferred doneness.

Rest and Slice: Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for about 5-10 minutes to retain the juices. After resting, slice the steak against the grain into thin strips.

Prepare the Tostadas: While the steak is resting, warm the tostada shells in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes to make them crispy.

Assemble the Tostadas: Spread a layer of refried beans on each tostada shell. Top with sliced carne asada, followed by shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and avocado slices.

Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle crumbled queso fresco over the top, followed by fresh cilantro for a burst of flavor. Serve with lime wedges on the side to squeeze over the tostadas.

              Prep Time: 30 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 4

                - Presentation Tips: Arrange the assembled tostadas on a large platter, stacking some to give height and garnish with extra lime wedges and cilantro sprigs for a vibrant look.
