Ingredients

4 chicken thighs (bone-in, skin-on)

2 cups buttermilk

2 tablespoons lemon zest

1 cup hot brewed black tea (cooled)

2 tablespoons honey

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the buttermilk, lemon zest, cooled brewed black tea, and honey. Mix until well combined.

Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting any excess liquid drip off. Dredge each thigh in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coat. Shake off any excess flour and place the coated chicken on a wire rack.

In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Carefully place the coated chicken thighs in the hot oil, skin-side down. Fry in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Cook for about 8-10 minutes until the skin is crispy and golden brown.

Flip the chicken and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).

Once cooked, remove the chicken and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving.

                    Prep Time: 15 min | Total Time: 4 hours + 15 min | Servings: 4
