Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup diced ham (cooked)

1 cup buttermilk

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Prepare a 9x13-inch baking dish by greasing the bottom and sides lightly with butter.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Whisk together until well combined.

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham until evenly distributed throughout the dry ingredients.

In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk and melted butter. Pour this wet mixture into the dry ingredients.

Using a spatula, gently fold the ingredients until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it’s okay if a few small lumps remain.

Spoon the biscuit dough into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly without pressing down firmly.

Pour an additional 4 tablespoons of melted butter evenly over the biscuit dough for that delicious swim.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Once baked, allow the biscuits to cool for about 5 minutes in the pan, then cut into squares or triangles.
