Ingredients

8 slices of day-old country bread, cut into cubes

6 slices of ham, chopped

1 cup gruyère cheese, grated

1 cup emmental cheese, grated

4 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread, chopped ham, and both cheeses (gruyère and emmental). Toss them gently to mix evenly.

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, dried thyme, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Pour the egg mixture over the bread and ham/cheese mixture, ensuring that all the bread is soaked thoroughly.

Let the mixture sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.

Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.

                Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 6-8

                  - Presentation Tips: Serve warm in squared portions on a colorful plate, drizzled lightly with a bit more Dijon mustard or crème fraîche for an extra touch of elegance, and sprinkle with additional parsley for a pop of color.
