Ingredients

8 oz (about 225g) penne pasta

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

1 cup marinara sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

½ cup pepperoni slices (or your choice of toppings)

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Sauté Garlic: In a large skillet or saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

Add Seasonings: Stir in the dried oregano, dried basil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for another minute to allow the flavors to combine.

Mix in Marinara: Pour in the marinara sauce and bring it to a gentle simmer. Allow it to cook for about 3-4 minutes to thicken slightly.

Combine Pasta: Add the drained pasta to the skillet, tossing it in the marinara sauce mixture until well-coated.

Cheesy Layering: Remove the skillet from heat and mix in half of the mozzarella cheese and half of the Parmesan cheese, stirring until melted and creamy.

Add Toppings: Gently fold in the pepperoni slices (or your choice of toppings) into the pasta.

Final Cheese Melt: Transfer the pasta to a baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.

Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the dish for about 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling and golden brown.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
