Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup whole milk

1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)

1 small onion, finely chopped

1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped

1 cup tomato sauce

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon ketchup

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Pour in the melted butter, then gradually add the whole milk, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix; it's okay if there are a few lumps.

Pour the biscuit batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula until browned, about 5 minutes. Drain excess fat.

Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet with the beef. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the vegetables soften.

Stir in the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes to meld the flavors.

Spoon the sloppy joe mixture evenly over the biscuit batter in the baking dish.

Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top of the sloppy joe mixture.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuit layer is golden brown and cooked through.

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
