- Croissants: Use 4 large croissants. They should be torn into pieces. Day-old croissants work best for this dish. They soak up the egg mixture well. Fresh ones may become too mushy.

Ingredients

4 large croissants, torn into pieces

6 large eggs

2 cups milk

1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese

1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

1/2 cup cooked bacon, crumbled (or diced ham for a different flavor)

2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped

1 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until fully combined.

Add the torn croissant pieces into the egg mixture and gently stir until they are well coated. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the croissants to soak up the liquid.

While the croissants are soaking, sprinkle half of the shredded Gruyère cheese on the bottom of the greased baking dish.

Layer half of the soaked croissant mixture over the cheese, followed by the crumbled bacon (or ham), and half of the cherry tomatoes.

Repeat the layers by adding the remaining croissant mixture on top, followed by the remaining cherry tomatoes and the rest of the Gruyère cheese.

Sprinkle fresh chives on top for added flavor.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the strata is puffed and golden brown on top.

Allow it to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
