Ingredients

12 oz spaghetti

1 lb ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option)

1 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

Salt and pepper, to taste

3 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef (or turkey), breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined; don't overwork the meat.

Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. You should have around 18-20 meatballs.

In a large skillet over medium heat, add a splash of olive oil and cook the meatballs, browning them on all sides (about 5-7 minutes). They do not need to be fully cooked through as they will bake in the oven.

In a large baking dish, mix the drained spaghetti with half the marinara sauce. Place the browned meatballs on top and pour the remaining marinara sauce over the meatballs.

Top with shredded mozzarella cheese, ensuring it covers the meatballs and spaghetti evenly.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling.

Once baked, let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired before serving.
