Ingredients

4 large croissants

8 slices of ham (preferably smoked or Dijon ham)

8 slices of Swiss cheese (or Gruyère cheese)

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon honey

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Freshly ground black pepper to taste

1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

In a small bowl, mix together Dijon mustard and honey until combined. This adds a sweet and tangy element.

Carefully slice each croissant in half horizontally, being careful not to cut all the way through.

Spread a thin layer of the honey-Dijon mixture on the cut side of both halves of each croissant.

Place 2 slices of ham on the bottom half of each croissant, followed by 2 slices of Swiss cheese on top.

Close the croissants gently and place them on the prepared baking tray seam side down.

Brush the tops of the croissants with the beaten egg to give them a beautiful golden color when baked.

Sprinkle freshly ground black pepper over the croissants for an extra kick of flavor.

Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Optionally, garnish with chopped chives before serving for a touch of color and flavor.
