1cupapples, peeled and diced (such as Granny Smith)
1tablespooncinnamon
0.25cupbrown sugar
0.25teaspoonnutmeg
4ozcream cheese, softened
2tablespoonsunsalted butter, softened
1cuppowdered sugar
1tablespoonvanilla extract
1tablespoonmilk (as needed for consistency)
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Mix well.
In a separate bowl, whisk together warm milk, melted butter, and the egg.
Gradually add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until combined.
Slowly add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
While the dough rises, prepare the filling: in a bowl, mix together the diced apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, and nutmeg. Set aside.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 12x18 inches).
Spread the apple filling evenly over the rolled-out dough.
Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.
Cut the roll into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
Cover the rolls loosely with plastic wrap and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
Meanwhile, prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until creamy. Add milk as needed for desired consistency.
Once the rolls are baked, allow them to cool slightly before drizzling with the cream cheese frosting.
