Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)
  • 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 cup sautéed mushrooms
  • 0.5 medium onion, sautéed until caramelized
  • 4 soft brioche burger buns
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • as needed butter for toasting buns
  • as needed lettuce and tomato slices for garnish
  • optional pickled jalapeños for a spicy kick

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into four patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each to prevent puffing while cooking.
  2. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip them and add two slices of cheddar to each patty. Continue cooking for another 4-5 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked to your desired doneness.
  3. In a separate pan, add a little oil or butter and sauté the mushrooms until golden and tender. Add the caramelized onions and sauté briefly to combine flavors.
  4. Melt some butter in a pan and toast the brioche buns until they're golden brown.
  5. On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the beef patty with melted cheese, then top with sautéed mushrooms and onions. Add the tomato slices and optional pickled jalapeños. Finally, place the top half of the bun on the burger.
  6. Serve the burgers hot with a side of crispy fries or a fresh salad.
