Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 large zest of orange
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 2/3 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 2/3 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing until fully incorporated.
  4. Stir in the orange zest, blending well to incorporate the bright citrus flavor into the batter.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  7. Fold in the semisweet chocolate chips and chopped walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  8. Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop generous spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving enough space between each cookie for spreading.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft.
  10. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

💡 Chef's Notes

Arrange the cookies on a colorful platter and garnish with a sprinkle of orange zest or chocolate shavings for an appealing touch.
