Ingredients

  • 2 slices sourdough bread
  • 1 whole ripe avocado, sliced
  • 4 slices crispy cooked bacon
  • 2 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • optional fresh arugula or spinach for added freshness

Instructions

  1. Spread the softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of sourdough bread. Sprinkle garlic powder on the buttered side for added flavor.
  2. On the unbuttered side of one slice of bread, layer one slice of cheddar cheese, followed by the bacon slices, avocado slices, and if desired, a handful of fresh arugula or spinach. Top with the second slice of cheddar cheese. Close the sandwich with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, place the assembled sandwich in the skillet. Grill for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Carefully flip the sandwich with a spatula and grill the other side for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted and both sides are golden brown.
  5. Once cooked, remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it sit for a minute. Cut it in half diagonally to reveal the delicious layers.

💡 Chef's Notes

Plate the grilled cheese sandwich on a cutting board or a colorful plate. Serve it with a side of chips or a small salad for a complete meal. Garnish with a sprig of fresh herbs for an appealing look.
