Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup diced cooked ham
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional)
  • to taste black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  3. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham until evenly distributed.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter and milk together until well combined.
  5. Pour the butter and milk mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it’s okay if some lumps remain.
  6. Using a large spoon or ice cream scoop, drop the biscuit dough into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, leaving space between each scoop.
  7. Pour any remaining melted butter over the top of the biscuits.
  8. If desired, sprinkle chopped chives on top for added flavor and color.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-18 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the biscuits are cooked through.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

💡 Chef's Notes

Serve warm directly from the baking dish, with a sprinkle of extra chives on top for garnish. Pair them with honey mustard or a spicy aioli on the side for dipping!
