Ingredients

  • 12 oz frozen or homemade meatballs
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 8 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • to taste fresh basil leaves for garnish
  • to taste salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, warm the marinara sauce. Add the meatballs, cover, and cook until heated through, about 10-12 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  3. While the meatballs are cooking, prepare the garlic butter. In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until well blended.
  4. Slice each hoagie roll lengthwise, ensuring not to cut all the way through. Spread a generous amount of garlic butter inside each roll.
  5. Place the opened rolls on a baking sheet and toast them in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  6. Once the toast is ready, take them out of the oven. Spoon a few meatballs along with marinara sauce into each roll.
  7. Top each filled sub with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and a generous handful of mozzarella cheese.
  8. Return the loaded subs to the oven and bake for an additional 5-8 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.

💡 Chef's Notes

Serve the meatball subs on a rustic wooden board, garnish with extra basil, and offer a side of marinara sauce for dipping.
