Ingredients

  • 8 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 1 tablespoon allspice berries
  • 1 whole orange, sliced
  • 1 whole apple, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 inch fresh ginger slices (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the apple cider and orange juice over medium heat.
  2. Stir in the brown sugar until it dissolves completely.
  3. Add the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, allspice berries, and the optional fresh ginger to the pot.
  4. Toss in the sliced orange and apple for added flavor and garnish.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and allow it to steep for at least 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Remove from heat, and strain the liquid to eliminate the spice solids.
  7. If desired, stir in the vanilla extract for an extra layer of flavor.
  8. Serve hot in mugs, garnished with a fresh slice of apple or orange and a cinnamon stick if desired.
