Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup dried plums (prunes), finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Gently fold in the finely chopped dried plums and walnuts if using, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  7. Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underbaked, which is perfect for that soft texture.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, dust the tops of the cookies with powdered sugar for a snowy finish.

💡 Chef's Notes

For a festive touch, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
