Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup crushed pretzels
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (or walnuts)
  • 1 cup festive holiday M&M's (or chocolate candies)
  • 1 pinch sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly until it becomes a smooth mixture (about 3-4 minutes). Add the vanilla extract and stir well.
  3. Pour the caramel mixture over the parchment-lined baking sheet, spreading it evenly.
  4. Sprinkle the crushed pretzels and chopped pecans over the caramel layer, pressing lightly to adhere.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 6-8 minutes, until the caramel is bubbly.
  6. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Let them sit for a minute to soften, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the top.
  7. Finish by adding the festive M&M's evenly across the chocolate layer. Lightly sprinkle sea salt on top for that perfect sweet and salty flavor.
  8. Allow the Christmas Crack to cool completely; you can expedite this by placing it in the refrigerator. Once set, break into pieces and serve.
