Caramel Apple Crisp Skillet Irresistible Dessert Treat
Ingredients
- 4 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 0.5 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 0.5 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- 0.5 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 serving Vanilla ice cream for serving
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and place a 10-inch cast-iron skillet in the oven to warm.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until apples are well coated.
- In another bowl, create the crisp topping by mixing together the rolled oats and flour. Add the cold cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. If using, stir in the chopped nuts at this stage.
- Remove the hot skillet from the oven and add the apple mixture, spreading it evenly across the bottom.
- Evenly sprinkle the oatmeal topping over the apples.
- Return the skillet to the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the apples are bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
- Five minutes before serving, drizzle caramel sauce over the top and return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes to warm the sauce.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
💡 Chef's Notes
Serve warm directly from the skillet with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and an extra drizzle of caramel sauce for added sweetness.
