Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 0.25 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • 0.5 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped (optional)
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and chocolate cake mix, stirring until well combined.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then add the brown sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix until smooth and fully incorporated.
  4. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed in the batter.
  5. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
  7. Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes before slicing into squares.
  8. Serve warm or at room temperature for a chewy texture, and feel free to dust with powdered sugar for extra flair.
