Bread Bowl Sloppy Joes Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 large sourdough bread bowls
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup diced green bell pepper
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (non-alcoholic)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- to taste salt and pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- for garnish fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey. Break it apart with a spatula as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes.
- Once the meat is browned, add the chopped onion, garlic, and green bell pepper. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
- Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- While the mixture simmers, prepare the sourdough bread bowls. You can carefully hollow out the center of each bread bowl, leaving some bread at the bottom to hold the filling.
- Once the sloppy joe filling is ready, remove it from the heat and spoon it generously into each bread bowl.
- Top the filled bread bowls with shredded cheddar cheese and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a minute before garnishing with freshly chopped parsley.
- Serve warm and enjoy the fun of scooping out the flavorful filling with the bread!
